The Virtual Stunt Hustle: The Thing Most Coordinators Think They Don't Need And All About Them
What is a Virtual Stunt Hustle?
A virtual stunt hustle is a new approach to meeting performers. Instead of relying on traditional networking, word of mouth, and the now-impossible task of on-set hustling by a performer, you (coordinators) are now able to schedule a time to meet performers whenever and from wherever you want. So kick those feet up and get comfortable on your couch or even your bed - we'll never know (unless you tell us).
Why do a virtual hustle?
They help you.
They help the stunt performer.
They help StuntListing - it helps cover their costs.
What's a virtual hustle like for a stunt coordinator?
It's an hour of meeting about 12 performers, usually for the first time, and answering a few questions. Some performers may join to share quick updates since your last interaction with them. How the rest of it goes, is totally up to you:
Some coordinators let performers do all the talking, while others ask questions.
Some coordinators want to give feedback to performers about their stunt reels or StuntListing profiles, some don't.
You can meet with people one-on-one, in groups of 3-4, or all together. Each conversation lasts about 4 minutes.
Some coordinators encourage performers to make changes to their materials and reach out after having done so.
Some coordinators want to meet a narrow group of people (BJJ specialists; riggers; acrobats etc.) and some don't.
What are my responsibilities as the coordinator?
A few, but they're easy:
• Show up a few minutes before the hustle starts to sort out any technical issues
• Turn your camera on
• Engage with the performers and answer a few questions
• Leave at the end satisfied knowing that you've done a service to the newer performers of the industry. They have a long road ahead of them with lots of uncertainties.
Typical schedule (example)
• Show up at 2:55 pm (any time works for us)
• Talk to performers from 3-3:45 pm
• Answer a few group questions 3:45-4pm (performers dismissed)
• 1-minute hustle feedback/review
That's a wrap!
What if my schedule changes?
That's fine. It happens all the time. They'd love to reschedule with you.
What happens after the stunt hustle?
That's up to you. If you're okay with it, the performers are given your email address to follow up with you. You'll also get a PDF with all the performers' info to reference during the hustle and after.
As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, virtual stunt hustling is a great alternative to something that was quite frankly - annoying (!!!). StuntListing completely understands the headache - there's always fires to put out on set and pulling focus to entertain an impromptu in-person hustle is never convenient.
