How Do Stunt People Get A Job? Part Two
Fighting for work when the work is fighting

You've Decided You Want To Crash & Burn For A Living...Now What?

Breaking into the world of stunts can be challenging, but it is possible with dedication and hard work. Here are some steps you can take to increase your chances of success:

1. Develop Both Your Physical and Professional Skills

Start by training in a specific skill set, such as martial arts, gymnastics, or parkour. Take classes and workshops to hone your skills and develop your technique. Be sure to take direction well, follow proper set etiquette, adapt quickly to new situations, understand the risks involved, and most importantly, execute the stunts safely and accurately.

2. Network

Get to know what gyms stunt performers train in and go there. This will give you a chance to observe working performers, meet new people and learn from those more experienced than you. Attend industry events, make connections (and follow up!) with the Coordinators you meet along the way. Participate in stunt workshops and training programs. GET OUT THERE!

3. Get certifications and licenses

Some stunts require performers to be certified in specific skills. Look for training programs for particular skills in your area and start building your credentials.

4. Build Your Resume & Stunt Reel

You can create a stunt resume and reel before you even get your first stunt credit. Build a resume with a list of your stunt skills and training. Using quality training footage, create a reel that demonstrates your physical ability and any special skills you have. Stunt Coordinators can assess a performer’s skill quickly so try to keep your reel under a minute.

5. Create a Profile on StuntListing and Fill It Out Completely

Be sure to add your headshot, reel and resume, and fill out the "Skill Set" section. With each entry, include a brief description of your experience and skill reel.

6. Stick with it

Breaking into the world of stunts can take time and persistence. Keep training and building your skills, and be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up.
